Toma and Bouma have undertaken numerous studies and projects involving environment, water and land. These issues are common to water and land use and economic activities in the province, nationally and globally. Considerations and new concepts are developed within the scope of natural resource capacities, economics, policies and related issues. Thorhild County Landfill Economic and Public Review, 2008 We were part of a large Team of environmental, financial and technical engineering consultants working to assist the County and Waste Management Corporation of Canada in their efforts to assess the financial and economic impacts of a new modern landfill to be located near Edmonton. This required public meetings, analysis of a proposed agreement and presentations.
Economic Analysis of Soil Phosphorus Limits on Alberta Farms, 2005
The analysis is a detailed review of the economic impacts of a range of phosphorus limit standards on Alberta farms. The study comprises an overview of economic impact studies from other jurisdictions, an analysis of Alberta livestock populations and related phosphorus production and a detailed economic impact analysis on a typical Alberta feedlot and swine operation.
Marketing Plan and Business Plan, Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence, 2004
The EWMCE (www.ewmce.ca) is a consortium of four major research institutions seeking to help private sector commercialize environmental technologies, educate communities and find new global market opportunities for Alberta and Canadian business. A two phase project was developed to help the non-profit company address these issues through facilitated meetings, market research, industry interviews and international calls to the World Bank, Mexico and others. The EWMCE is a global leader as an educational and recycling organization.
Review of Irrigation in Saskatchewan with Clifton Associates, 2008
We conducted a review of water use, policy and irrigation plans for the province, including a benefit-cost analysis and comparisons with Alberta’s highly successful irrigation ystems and value added processing. Irrigation is thought to be a strategic investment given global warming and drying of the prairies.
Water Policy in Canada for PFRA, 2006
We completed this project with Clifton Associates Engineering to compare water policy across Canada and the various issues which face the provinces. Water demand and uses were also reviewed. This work has demonstrated the need for more integrated policy, use of economic instruments and collaborative programs.
Biomass Assets in Alberta, 2005
We reviewed the supply and sources of biomass for new uses in bio-chemical, bio-energy and bio-product applications in the province and industry comment. We have lead research and development reviews for technology applications in Alberta’s bio-products sector.
Forest Biotechnology in Alberta, 2000
This project involved a review of the biotechnology issue with respect to Alberta forest industry interests and policy requirements. A benchmark of other jurisdictions was made to assess how the issues of forest plantations, fibre supply and competitiveness can be affected by biotechnology. The work was for Alberta Innovation and Science.
Agricultural Biotechnology in Alberta, 2001
This project involved a review of the biotechnology issue with respect to Alberta agricultural industry interests and industry development requirements. We conducted the work for BioAlberta and benchmarked the province against several USA and Canadian jurisdictions. |
